The peak representative body for NSW commercial wild harvest fishers, the NSW Wild Harvest Fishers Association (WHF), has announced the appointment of Mr. Neil MacDonald as its Independent Chair following a nationwide search.
Neil has had a long history of being involved in industry leadership roles at both a fishery and sector level, as well as at a State and National level. He has worked for and with industry organisations for over two decades in the seafood industry and has a strong interest in supporting industry capacity to have effective industry bodies and leaders.
“I would like to thank outgoing Chair John Wilson who has successfully established WHF and laid the foundations for the industry in NSW to speak with one voice”, Mr MacDonald said.
“Creating an environment where commercial fishers and other industry members are able to build their capacity and effective relationships with their sectors, government and regional groups has been a particular focus of my commitment to the industry. Following the instability of the extensive reforms of fisheries management it is essential we deliver on processes that strengthen industry’s capacity to secure fisher’s rights and access.
Being recognised by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development as the peak representative body will not be taken for granted and WHF will work collaboratively with the department, industry and the community to achieve sound government policy that delivers long term benefits to commercial fishers, the marine environment and the community”, Mr MacDonald said.
End.
